Nothing would grow in this side yard — too much shade, too much root competition. It was a mud strip. Travertine set on a properly restrained base turned it into the most-used seating spot on the property, cool and shaded through the worst of the afternoon. Because it sits in shade with high humidity, we specified a breathable sealer and a joint detail that resists organic growth.
